peruvian avocado

For some years now, the producers of the Peruvian highlands have increased and invested in better avocado crops for export and their management, thus seeing today the fruits of that arduous work and conveniently considering their harvest dates between the months of December to February, just in the gap of months where Peruvian avocado exports are not expected.

With these new harvest and export dates implemented in the 2020 campaign, we can already say that Peru is a country capable of taking the best of avocado for export to any corner of the world. Obtaining in this campaign 1. 103 million dollars only until September for the shipment of 548 thousand 28 tons of avocados, growing 33% in volume and 46% in value thanks to the fact that the kilo of Peruvian avocados were quoted at 2.01 dollars.

This achievement, which would not have been obtained without the production of the producers of the Sierra de Ancash, Cajamarca and La Libertad, has allowed avocados to get on the podium of the exported fruits that have exceeded 1,000 million dollars, together with the grapes and blueberries who achieved it in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

Peruvian avocado destinations

The main export destination continues to be the Netherlands, which has accounted for 33% of the participation in this campaign, adding profits of 360 million dollars, 29% more than the last period. All this, due to the decrease in the supply of Chilean avocado, which allowed Peru to obtain a greater demand as well as the Colombian avocados that also benefited from the Chilean fall.

The United States holds 18% of the participation of Peruvian exports, thus occupying the second place of destination of our avocados, Spain occupying the third position with 16% of the participation and Chile became the fourth destination of this fruit with 13 % of the stake sending the UK to fifth position.
