Is Colombia the main supplier of Hass avocado in Europe?
The Hass avocado is one of the fruits that has gained greater popularity in international commercialization in recent years, causing more and more countries to venture into its cultivation in order to supply the large world markets.
And, although we know which countries are the main powers in the world in Hass avocado exports; Colombia claims to be the main supplier of the European continent. Why? We explain it to you below.

The French agency Cirad (Center for International Cooperation in Agronomic Research for Development), in its latest study indicated that Colombia has currently achieved the title of the main supplier of Hass avocados in Europe. News that was taken with great joy by ProColombia, who states that the Colombian Hass avocado is growing by leaps and bounds.
Jorge Restrepo, director of CorpoHass, added that currently Colombia covers 30% of the share of Hass avocado shipments to Europe, in addition, Colombian avocados arrive at a time when the total supply has decreased, favoring the increase in price and profits for producers.
How did the other countries fare with your Hass avocado shipments?
Restrepo states that this achievement also comes thanks to the fact that Chile had a 75% lower participation than last year and that Mexico concentrated its shipments in the North American market due to the Super Bowl. Other countries, such as Israel and Spain also supplied the old continent but to a much lesser extent.
For Flavia Santoro, president of ProColombia, the news is of historical stature and she thanked the commitment of national producers who are committed to producing avocados with great flavor, quality and sustainability, characteristics that are very well appreciated and supported by foreign importers.
The goal now, for Colombian producers, is to continue increasing the production of Hass avocado so that they can continue to lead shipments at least during the first quarter of 2021 and continue to supply countries such as the Netherlands, Spain, France, England and Germany.
Currently, Chile continues to decrease its exports and Peru has not yet started its harvest season, which continues to benefit the Colombian supply. However, Colombian producers acknowledge that the annual ranking continues to be led by Peru, Mexico, Chile, Israel and Spain, but a good future is predicted as they are already among the top 10 avocado suppliers to Europe.
Did the pandemic influence?
The current global pandemic confirmed the increase in avocado consumption, because over the months, this fruit has been included in the usual diet of European consumers thanks to its versatility and nutritional benefits.
