Everything indicates that shipments of fresh Peruvian grapes will be sent in large concentrated volumes according to the projections of Andre Fattore, sales manager of “El Pedregal”.

2020 was a difficult year for everyone, but with the arrival of this new year, things for shipments of Peruvian table grapes to different markets seem to improve. Although it is true, at the beginning the strike of farmers put some obstacles, little by little these problems are already in the past.

From the second and third week of January 2021, the US market will be one of the first importing countries to see voluminous shipments of fresh Peruvian grapes arrive, since the delay caused by the two agricultural stoppages at the end of 2020, triggered shipments to be before reaching the port of Callao or Pisco, especially shipments from the Ica region, one of the main producers of fresh grapes in Peru.

Most shipped Peruvian fresh grape varieties

Fresh green grapes are going to dominate the concentrations of shipments that are about to arrive in the United States, as their harvests were prioritized due to their greater sensitivity to quality problems.

For Andre Fattore, there are two points to evaluate in these shipments. In the first place, there are the weather conditions that were very favorable on the north and south coast of Peru, improving production levels per hectare and fruiting first quality grapes, with favorable results in new licensed varieties such as the Timpson variety.

The second point, and the most conflictive, were the strikes, they not only hampered the harvests, but also the logistics operations and without a doubt, although the weather was fantastic, this problem presented losses for the producers of fresh grapes in Peru.

Projections for this 2021

The varietal replacement for seedless grapes will already be noticeable this year, since the predictions of the sales manager of "El Pedregal" communicate that these varieties will be exported in volumes of 18 million boxes for green varieties and up to 15 million boxes for the red varieties.

And that's not all, because the overall export volume, with varieties with and without seeds, would go from 48 million boxes obtained last year to 56 million boxes for this year.
