Fresh grapes: What to expect from this season?

A couple of weeks ago, the 2020-2021 Peruvian fresh grapes export campaign was started, with the first shipment made from Piura to Korea and duly certified by the National Agrarian Health Service, SENASA.

According to the Peruvian Table Grape Producers and Exporters Association (PROVID), in this new 2020-2021 campaign, there will be a growth of 16% compared to the previous 2019-2020 campaign, projected in 56 million boxes of 16.4 pounds each.

In turn, PROVID undertook to continuously monitor all shipments made abroad as the campaign progresses, in order to correct its projections on the fly with 100% real data that can correctly inform the entire Peruvian and foreign market.

New varieties of fresh grapes

Peru continues in a stage of varietal reconversion of fresh export grapes. Currently up to 50 different varieties are exported to more than 50 foreign markets around the world.

This reconversion has seen shipments of the Red Globe variety decrease little by little, which went from constituting 50% of exports 4 years ago to 32% last season, paving the way for new varieties of seedless grapes whose cultivation has been increased.

Biosafety protocols

Peruvian producers have been very committed to complying with biosecurity protocols in the face of the current Covid 19 pandemic that the world is experiencing.

In addition, SENASA inspectors are always alert to verify that the phytosanitary procedures requested by the authorities of the different countries to which the fresh grapes will be exported are also complied with, ensuring that the fruits are free of pests and their entry is not prevented.
