Peruvian Hass avocado exports by region
With the continued success of the Peruvian Hass avocado abroad, investment in this crop has increased, as well as the productivity of the plants and the agricultural hectares dedicated to Hass avocado.
With the start of the Hass 2021 avocado campaign, Lambayeque, one of the regions that has been consolidating its avocado production in recent years, has been working together with the National Agrarian Health Service (SENASA) in order to continue maintaining the increasing the supply to the foreign market.
Part of the work that is being carried out is the certification of the places of production that allows them to be suitable for agro-exportation.
So far, in 2021, 76 avocado production sites located in Olmos, Motupe, Jayanca, Mesones Muro, Pítipo, Zaña and new lands belonging to the Olmos Project have already been certified, which in total become 2,764 certified hectares.
The Netherlands has been the main destination for Lambayecan avocados, shipping 201 metric tons counted so far.
Last export season, 2020, SENASA managed to certify 146 production sites within Lambayeque that in total covered an area of a little more than 6 thousand hectares.
And having the rise of COVID 19 as the main enemy, Lambayeque managed to export 26,007,606 metric tons to the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Spain, England, France, Belgium, China, South Korea, the United States, Argentina and Chile.
Other regions
Another region that continues to grow in area, production and shipments of Hass avocado, is Cusco, with the district of Limatambo being its main place of production. In this new 2021 campaign, only Limatambo producers shipped 42 tons of Hass avocado to Switzerland.
Thanks to the support of SENASA, this is the first time that Limatambo producers have managed to pack their exports in their own lands, representing an important step for producers since before they had to take their crops to Ica in order to carry out this process.
So far this year, SENASA certified 34 production sites in the Limatambo valley, this certification ensures that the fruits comply with the international and phytosanitary standards required by importing countries such as China, the Netherlands, Korea, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
