Peru is the second world exporter of grapes

In 2020, Peru and China disputed the first place as the main world exporter of grapes, being also 2 of the countries with the highest production of grapes in their different varieties.

China is known to be the world's leading exporter of grapes. But the case of Peru has been surprising since it has displaced Chile and the United States from their positions, ranking second after the great Asian.

Thus, in Peru, grape shipments abroad totaled US $ 521 million 792 thousand in the first half of the year, experiencing a positive variation of 29.4% compared to the same period last year (US $ 403 million 207 thousand ), reported the Agro-Export Management of the Association of Exporters (ADEX).

During 2020, Peru sent grapes to more than 50 destinations around the world. The most important markets were the United States, with 45% share, and the Netherlands, with 14%. It should be noted that in the North American country, Peru is positioned as the second most important supplier with a 32% market share after Chile, a country that obtained a 38% share.

In the European country, Peru ranked second with a 16% share. For its part, China concentrated 25% of its shipments to Vietnam, 24% to Thailand and 17% to Indonesia.

Although the fence of difference between China and Peru with respect to the volume of exports is wide, it must be considered that the participation of these two are based on different markets of the world.
