Biloxi and Ventura blueberries are the most exported by Peru

Since the healthy food trend arrived, berries have gained greater notoriety, being a safe bet for countries with growing agriculture. For Peru, biloxi and ventura blueberries are the most cultivated and commercialized varieties.

According to Fernando Cilloniz Benavides, president of Inform @ cción, 159 thousand tons of Peruvian blueberries were shipped from June 2020 until the third week of February 2021, reporting a growth of 34.75% compared to the figures obtained in the same previous period.

Main Destinations

Among the main importing countries are the United States (80 thousand tons), the Netherlands (40 thousand tons), China (9, 200 tons), the United Kingdom (10 thousand tons), Hong Kong (5, 800 tons) and other countries such as Spain, Canada, Thailand, Singapore, Belgium, Brazil, Germany, Malaysia, Russia and the United Arab Emirates to which lower volumes were exported.

The biloxi blueberry variety is the most cultivated in Peruvian lands with 5,381 hectares, followed by the Ventura variety with 4,711 hectares, the Rocío variety has 860 hectares, the Emerald variety, 783 hectares; Atlasblue, 244 has; Eureka, 244 has; Scintilla, 221 has; Magic, 168 has; Stella Blue, 142 has; among others.
