Export tangerines grew by 15% in 2020

In 2020, the world's citrus fruits had an excellent year, and although the outlook was bleak for many markets, they achieved commercial growth of 15%, more than half that in 2019. Of course, one of the fruits that shone the most was the mandarin and of course, Peruvian export tangerines were not going to be left behind.

Tangerines achieved 28% of the participation in the citrus market, however, in Peru, they were positioned as the most exported citrus fruit during 2020 with shipments that reached 234 million dollars in total and managed to position itself as the seventh most exported fruit. important in the Peruvian agro-export basket.

Spain, Turkey and China continue to be the most exporting countries of mandarins with a partition of 32%, 21% and 19%, respectively. Peru managed to occupy the seventh position in terms of volume, but if we talk about value, it managed to be in the sixth position.

Peruvian mandarin shipments abroad reached a volume of 188 thousand 556 tons and a value of 234 million dollars, 30% more in volume and value compared to 2019. On the other hand, the price of a kilo of mandarin was at 1.24 dollars ; one of the highest in the world despite being similar to the price per kilo of 2019.

As for the destination countries of Peruvian export mandarins, the United States accounted for 50% and it is worth mentioning that it is the fourth largest buyer of mandarins in the world with imports greater than 375 thousand tons and investments of 621 million dollars.

Shipments from Peru to the United States exceeded 94 thousand tons and 155 million dollars of the total investment, they also ended up in the pockets of the Peruvian portfolio.

The United Kingdom was the second country that imported the most Peruvian mandarins with 12% of the share, importing 22,263 tons of the citrus fruit for 28 million dollars, making it the 4th most important supplier of mandarins in the United Kingdom.
